It's almost bedtime now, but here's some filtered morning light in my favorite study corner. I have also vacuumed today, so there's not as much dog hair on the daybed. I probably won't change that sheet until we get back from the folk festival this weekend, but it is actually less dog-hairy than it was when I took this photo.
What I did today:
*walked the dog
* revised and uploaded a Substack essay
*read another Agatha Christie Poirot mystery (The Hollow)
*read several sections of Pearl for this coming Tuesday's class
*vacuumed the house
*went to dinner with my husband, and afterwards watched the last two episodes of the fourth season of Bosch (Los Angeles detective series, quite gritty but good)
*took the dog out again
*drank some tea
My new-to-me Brooklyn dress arrived today, and while initially I didn't think I'd keep her, after a second try-on (which resulted in my wearing her all day), I think I am keeping her.
The bodice is a good bit looser than the bodices of my other two (Small Long) Brooklyns, but I put in a safety pin, and tomorrow I'll go ahead and put in a permanent stitch. Initially I had thought, NO WAY --- I don't know whether the seller used this dress for nursing, or whether it's just the bigger size than I'm used to, but the wrap bodice felt VERY loose, too loose for me to deal with. But I played with it a little, and with a judicious stitch, I think it'll be just fine.
This is also a significantly shorter dress than I'm used to wearing -- though now that I think of it, probably my XS Iris Blue Sierra was about this short at first. I won't be wearing this dress to church (without a skirt over), but for summertime kicking around, I think this length is pretty fun. I paid a whopping $16 for this dress, which means I won't mind hiking in her, for example. I won't mind wearing her on a boat to go fishing. But I did also happily wear her out to dinner tonight.
She will be cute with tights and boots in the winter, too, and with leggings. I still prefer the Long length, but I can make this work for me just fine.
And I love the color. Plum was one of the OG Wool& colors, and I slept on it, and now I'm sorry I did. It's really lovely, a purple that I think just about anybody could wear, except maybe a really high-contrast black-and-white icy-toned person. I think it suits me just fine.
Anyway, I wasn't sure about this purchase, but as the day has worn on, I am really happy with it. I probably would not have spent anything remotely approaching full retail price ($138) for this particular dress, but for $16?* Yeah, it was a good buy.
*The actual price was $39, which was unbelievably low, plus shipping that would have brought the total to about $50. I had some credit built up which took my actual expenditure down to $16. In case you were wondering. It was a good deal, but not THAT good a deal, without my having sold things and thus had some credit built up that I could spend.
Anyway, a nice day. I have a little work still to do tomorrow, but not that much, before we take off for a festive weekend of folk music and (mostly University of St. Thomas) friends.
And so to bed.
