Daylilies and hoary mountain mint from the other day, when the sun was shining. Last night we had a massive thunderstorm, with a good bit of rain --- quite welcome after all the heat and dry weather. All the gardens got a good and needed drenching. The morning continues overcast and dull, but cooler, which again is quite welcome.
In just a few I'm going to wash my hair and get dressed --- much to do today.
*walk the dog
*finish packing
*try to finish an essay due to run the day we travel home (I finished my two for next week, when we're away)
*read Icelandic sagas
*Get the house in order so that we can return to order
*One last pub night at our beloved neighborhood spot, which closes on Saturday
It is raining again right now, though not storming, which is good. The sound of the rain is soothing and lovely --- as much as I love the desert, I still remember how much I missed, in our eight years in Utah, living where it rained a lot.
SLIGHTLY LATER
Wearing today:
*Secondhand Not Perfect Linen Smock dress (S/M, I think) in Grape Wine, bought fall 2024, last worn June 19. Wears in 2025: 12
*Secondhand Xero Z-Trek sandals, year 1 of wear
A stormy purple dress for a stormy day --- seems about right. It's cooler today, with a high of 87F, and I can probably comfortably wear my jean jacket out to the pub tonight, to dress up this basic ensemble a little.
For now I'm comfortable, and I have a lot to do. Onward!
AFTERNOON UPDATE
Finished the last of two weeks' worth of essays just now. Whew. For the folks in the back row, that's five essays in two days. Granted, a couple were retreads that didn't take me that long, but I had to research what turned into a longish piece on Andrew Marvell, and everything needed at least a little revision. I feel I have earned the beer I'm going to drink tonight.
Husband is doing more yard work, so he will have earned his beer, too. Dora has been pestering me, and she earns zero beers, but the zero beers is what she would get no matter what.
