Last call --- for us, anyway --- at our beloved neighborhood pub. When we come home from Canada, the doors will be shut, the windows dark. Last night the friends whose trivia team we've been chatting with every Thursday night for years all wore black, as did a number of other Thursday trivia-night regulars. The place was packed as never before, which . . . is the problem, really. If only all those people had come out regularly. Our friend Steve said he had been in on a Saturday night recently when he was the only person there. Farewell, Bricktree, you were too good for us.
Mostly packed, about to get dressed and run out for a few last-minute items. Our plane doesn't leave until 3:15, which is civilized, though I hope we don't get caught by storms. We're scheduled to arrive in Halifax, Nova Scotia, at 10:30 p.m., after a connection through Toronto, and if things go wrong, this could be a late night, which seems not so civilized. Still, I'm grateful not to be dashing out the door for the airport right now.
Wearing my jean jacket last night (no photo, but it was essentially this outfit, with teal Z-Treks instead of Crocs) made me think how much I love wearing my jean jacket, and how much it completes an outfit, especially for stepping out in the evening. So I think I might stuff my pink silk-rayon cardigan into my backpack and wear my jean jacket on the plane instead. It's really too bulky to pack, but it should be fine over my Sierra, not too warm but warm enough for the chilly airport and plane.
Wearing:
*Wool& Sierra dress (XS) in Iris Blue, bought January 2025, last worn June 22 (changed into after Mass; I didn't post a photo). Wears in 2025: 32
*Secondhand Xero Oswego shoes, year 1 of wear
*Darn Tough no-show socks, year 1 of wear
*Thrifted Loft jean jacket, owned at least 5 years
I really do not love wearing closed-toe shoes --- I'm more comfortable, and I think my feet and legs look better, if I'm wearing sandals. BUT to go through airport security, I thought it might be nice to have no-show socks on my feet, instead of going barefoot (which honestly does not gross me out that much . . . I don't reflexively find even the feet of my fellow human beings that disgusting . . . but you know, why not wear socks?).
I'm going to need to run out to the store for dog food and a few last-minute essentials, but otherwise, I'm ready to go. We've had some upheaval with our flight from Toronto to Halifax, NS, but I think it's sorted out now.
I don't know how much blogging I'll do on this trip, but I hope to update occasionally, with photos.
And off we go.
UPDATE
Well, okay, I can't stand closed-toed shoes in the summer, so my outfit basically now looks just like this. I mean: my feet are clean (and deodorized), but wearing sandals means that stuff is going to get on my feet. I don't see how the airport floor for five minutes is any worse than walking down a city sidewalk in a pair of sandals.
Anyway, my feet are happier now. And I feel better all over. I do have my hiking shoes packed . . . we'll just see whether I really wear those Oswegos or not. They're so nice, and I love the color (but they are a half-size smaller than my older pairs, and while technically they fit, this could be why I'm not enjoying wearing them, which means I might resell them, but not today).
Hanging out with Dora, updating my writing-income/outflow tax spreadsheet, waiting to be ready to leave the house.
Got plenty to read, all on my phone: True Grit, the assigned sagas for class, etc.
