More cilantro blooms, which are quite lovely and worth the trouble of growing cilantro, beyond the obvious advantage of having cilantro to put in food. My yarrow seedlings won't bloom for another year, but this is kind of scratching the same itch, visually.
More rain last night, and an overcast morning for Pentecost. Again, I'm a bit tired of rain, but glad that everything in the garden is getting a thorough soaking. I need to plant some more carrot seeds --- we ate almost all the remaining purple carrots for dinner last night. I have planted the rest of those seeds already, in the same planter (there was plenty of room, and now there's more), but I should re-sow the red carrots as well. I didn't have as many of those to begin with --- the soil in that grow bag probably needs amending --- but I want to try another round, because it is nice to have fresh new carrots right out of the garden.
So, it's Pentecost, which makes getting dressed easy. Like Palm Sunday and (sometimes, when I don't just wear black) Good Friday, this is a day to wear what little red I have in my closet.
Wearing today:
*Secondhand Not Perfect Linen tank in (??) Oatmeal? Or Natural? I don't know. Bought just before Lent this year. First year of wear
*Secondhand NY&Company linen-(probably) rayon skirt, bought January 2023. Third year of wear.
*Thrifted Crocs sandals, passed along to me by the TXgirl last year, second year of wear
This is the base outfit. I always cover my shoulders in church --- where the air conditioning is on in any case --- so I knew I'd want a cardigan. I knew I wanted a cardigan in a fairly close shade to this tank, rather than a darker contrast, which narrowed my choices down to two:
Secondhand Banana Republic silk-cotton cardigan, bought this year, vs. secondhand J.Jill linen-rayon cardigan bought early in 2023.
I love the silk-cotton cardigan and reach for it a lot. But here it looks a bit boxy. It doesn't hit quite at the flared hemline of my tank, but close enough to create a solid block of color and line. If I tucked in my tank it would work, but I don't want to tuck in my tank. The hem is flared enough that it doesn't lie neatly under this fairly silky skirt, and I like the untucked silhouette over the skirt.
So the longline cardigan wins today. I like the way it breaks up the horizontal line where the tank meets the skirt, especially since that contrast is so high. I haven't been wearing this cardigan that often, but sometimes it is exactly what I need. Of course, I could have chosen its navy-blue twin, but then I would have looked like a slightly out-of-focus Fourth of July, not Pentecost.
Damp hair, diffused about halfway dry. I'm going to try to leave it loose today, but we'll see.
And now it's time to brush my teeth and take Dora out, before her long nap in the crate while we're at church.
ALSO
I'm calling this color scheme How the Grinch Stole Pentecost. It is what it is.
EVENING UPDATE
Lovely Pentecost Mass at the Abbey, followed by lunch at a little pub in Cramerton that we've been meaning to visit. Not feeling much like supper, even now.
I also neglected to remind myself this morning that it's Day 8 of my June Wear Everything Once Challenge, which applies to dresses and skirts but not tops. So the red skirt is out until I've worn everything else in the closet that hasn't already been worn --- but the linen tank could see some action, possibly.
Pondering what I might wear this week, with temperatures in the mid- to high 80s Farenheit. What haven't I worn yet in June?
*Chocolate Brown linen Leila dress
*Emerald Green linen Smock dress
*Grape Wine linen Smock dress (not worn since the last week in Lent, actually)
*Japanese linen pinafore
*Pacific wool Brooklyn dress
*Beetroot wool Brooklyn dress
*Black Heather wool-tencel Audrey dress
*Iris Blue wool Sierra dress
*Blue patterned linen maxi skirt
I think this is right. If it is, then by June 17 I should have worn every piece (except tops) in my closet once and can start over, basically. I don't know that I want to do this every month, but it's a useful exercise to be doing now. What do I really want to wear this week?
*Probably a Brooklyn dress for going out on Thursday. Doesn't much matter which one. I've been saving them for warmer days than the ones we've had, wearing my longer-sleeved dresses instead. But now it really is warming up.
*Audrey will be good this week as well. I have some choices of shirt to wear with her, if I desire, but she's fine on her own, as well --- and will look good with my new teal sandals.
*I'll plan to wear Sierra on Saturday, because she's just a good Saturday dress
*Otherwise . . . I should plan to wear that Grape Wine Smock, because it's been a long time. I got the Lenten purple out of my system, so that dress can come out to play again.
*Maybe I'll wear the blue patterned maxi skirt to church next week? Or either of the other two linen dresses? I'll think on that.
OK, back to Miss Mapp and her nefarious doings.
