SATURDAY, ASCENSIONTIDE

Sumer is icumen in, with the promise of blackberries. Already I've harvested peppers, and we had the first of the yellow squash with our supper last night. I think I'm going to pull some beets and marinate them in the fridge for a cold salad tonight, to accompany grilled chicken with a compote of mango and jalapeno peppers, garnished with fresh cilantro.

I sproinged my lower back today bending to pull weeds, so am walking slowly and carefully. The ibuprofen --- which I try not to take, but sometimes you need the anti-inflammatory --- is kicking in, and the more I move around, the better. I walked up to the post office to mail a package and felt much looser and freer of movement on my return. Now I'm sitting, which I'll probably regret, but I mean to get up and move again before long, just to keep things from freezing up.

I have packed up and sent the Viking his next round of ADHD meds, and I might walk up to the post office again later on to put another package in the mail: my Earth Shoe Mary Janes, which have sold. That box is all sealed up and labeled, and I might just wait to put it out for the mailman Monday morning, because it might not fit in the parcel drop. It's not huge, but it is wider than my normal mailings. I am always happy when things sell out of the sale box. A little credit for me eventually to spend (rather than spending actual money), one less item in my house, and hopefully a happy person on the receiving end.

I've also stripped our bed, washed the mattress cover and this past week's sheets and hung the lot to dry. The sheets I'll put away, but the mattress cover will go back on. Actually, I'd like to turn the mattress, but I can't do that on my own even when I'm fit to handle large awkward items. As the husband is now engaged in yard work, that might have to wait, but we'll see. It's been a while since we last turned the mattress, though, and he cares as much as I do that we not wear it out too fast. Our bed is very comfortable, and we want it to stay that way.

Wearing today:

*Wool& Sierra dress (XS) in Iris Blue, what a surprise. Bought in January, last worn 4 days ago. Wears in 2025: 28

*Ralph Lauren madras cotton button shirt purloined from the sons' closet upstairs. It's been hanging there for years. I stole and wore it in 2021 with my 100-day dress. At this point, I don't think it fits either of them, and it seems clear that nobody really wants it, so I am wearing it for some casual Marian Blue, here on the last day of the month. I'm not usually a plaid person, but these subtle, tonal blues are very nice.

*Xero Jessie sandals, year 3 of wear

It's Saturday, and I'm comfortable. Sierra is a good dress for that, my stand-in for jeans, shorts, athleisure, whatever. Having done some gardening and planned my Saturday-night menu, I think I'll read Mapp and Lucia --- which is getting painfully sillier by the minute, but I can't look away.
