TUESDAY/FEAST OF SAINT MONICA/PUBLICATION DAY FOR THE BLACKBIRD!

Golden-hour kitchen window with sun, leaves, and spiderwebs.

A view of the rest of the kitchen at the same moment:

It's as hot this week as it was a month ago, yet I wouldn't mistake this time for midsummer. The light is different. The air is different, especially in the mornings and evenings. It's hot, but there's a feeling afoot, of something else on its way. I love that at this time of year as much as I love the intimations of spring in February.

Today of course is the feast of St. Monica, mother of the great Augustine of Hippo and patron saint of mothers. I plan to go to noon Mass for her sake and, of course (though I do it every day), pray particularly for my children, as she did for her child. And for my mother, while I'm at it. On the memorial of the patron of mothers, we ought to pray for our mothers, wherever they are and whatever they're like.

It's also publication day for The Blackbird and Other Stories. Maybe I'll pose with the book to mark the day. Otherwise . . . I always think I should have some big event planned, but all my publication days so far have been just normal days, with the husband at school. Tonight I think he might be working late. So . . . happy pub day to me, anyway!

Otherwise, nothing much on.

*Bath/hair wash (mostly because I had to brush it out to trim the front layers last night, so it needs a refresh)

*Dog walk

*Mass at noon

*Dive into the next essay I need to write

Wearing today:

*Wool& Audrey dress (S) in Black Heather, bought November 2022, last worn August 12. Total 2024 wears to date: 19. Audrey might win most-worn dress of 2024 --- we shall see.

*Secondhand Flax periwinkle linen tunic, bought February 2024, last worn July 21. Total wears in 2024 to date: 7

*Secondhand Birk Mayaris, bought April 2024, default shoes, worn yesterday.

I didn't have this outfit on my plan for the week, but it struck me that I hadn't worn this dress in some days (whereas I had worn my NPL Smock dress, which was on the plan). And that it had been a really long time since I last wore this tunic, which I like quite a lot, but mostly as a light layer over this dress.

So here we are. I'm set for Mass, and I should be comfortable for the whole day, even though it's going to be very warm, with a projected high of 94F.

Hair is about 50% dry right now. I helped it along with the diffuser, mostly just to remove the weight of the water, which tends to pull my waves out longer and make them stringier. It should finish drying pretty quickly, with minimal product to hold the water in.

Onward!

Oh, and here I am posing with the book to mark the day:
