TUESDAY, ORDINARY TIME 20 (UPDATES)

Neighborhood scene, walking home from the post office with Dora yesterday afternoon.

Today:

*take the husband's car to be detailed after a summer in the Artgirl's care

*dentist

*he needs my car to go to school, so no noon Mass, alas

*essay-writing

*dinner (think I'll do easy chicken/tomato/basil sausages tonight, after being creative with figs last night --- spent-grain-crust pie with shredded chicken, onion, goat cheese, figs, and balsamic was quite a hit, and I'm having the remains for lunch today)

I got up early and washed my hair and will shortly go dry it and dress myself. Running my eye down my outfit menu for the week, thinking about how freaking cold it is in the dentist's office . . .

Annnnnnd . . .

Wearing today:

*Secondhand NPL Smock dress (S/M) in Dark Gray-Blue, bought December 2023, last worn August 10 in Seagrove. No time today to count wears to date, but I do wear this dress pretty regularly.

*Secondhand Icebreaker merino micro-stripe pink tee, bought fall 2021, can't remember the last time I wore it, actually. I cropped this one a little too short, so it's really only good as an under-layer, which is okay, because it's quite thin and see-through anyway. Still, I like the color and the tiny stripe, and it's fun with this dress as a pinafore.

*Secondhand Brooks Brothers merino cardigan, bought fall 2023, last worn August 4.

*Secondhand Kalso Earth Shoes Mary Janes, bought August 2024, last worn day before yesterday. I was going to wear clogs again, but on my long walk yesterday they rubbed blisters on new places on both feet. I love those clogs, and the leather is massively soft, but they are not great for distance walking without socks. So I'm giving my feet a chance to heal over (the old blister places haven't re-blistered, thankfully) and wearing these shoes instead.

Time to walk Dora and then on with the day.

Before I trot off to the dentist, here's my daily color check (natural light at the window, no filter, no makeup):

Feels okay to me. Now to go be beautiful with my mouth open and somebody's hands in it.

LUNCHTIME UPDATE:

Back from the dentist --- a nice 10-minute walk in the sunshine each way. The weather's really pleasant today, only 75F right now, so it's glorious to be outside.

I can report that these Earth Shoe Mary Janes --- now that I've affixed some moleskin inside the heels --- are perfect for walking. They spared my blisters of yesterday (weirdly kind of on the inside of my instep, where I can't remember ever having gotten a blister before) and felt lovely on my feet.

The husband is off to work, and I'm going to change our sheets, do a little quick tidying, and then settle down to some essay-writing.

AFTERNOON UPDATE:

I have

*drafted one essay and begun simultaneously writing and researching the second for next week

*talked to the Texasgirl on the phone

*walked Dora again

*changed and remade the bed

*washed Dora's bedding

*washed my two nightgown-dresses (my Wool& Camellia and Sierra, both bought in 2021 and worn to a raveling, like the Tailor of Gloucester) and hung them on the line to dry

*sold a pair of shoes on Poshmark and packed them up with their mailing label to ship

*answered several emails

*pulled my hair back in a do I used to like several years ago and now am happy to revisit:

It's basically just a half "topsy-tail" --- you pull back the two sides of your hair at the front for a half-updo and secure them together in a partial ponytail at the back of your head with a little scrunchie, like the one you see here. Then you part the pulled-back hair and pull the tail of the partial ponytail up and down through the separation. Quick and easy, and a good way to use little scrunchies, which are soft and gentle on your hair.

You can see how much relatively new silver hair I have --- all those flyaways! My hair, it is a-changin'.
