Sigrid Undset's Nobel medal, 1928.
Here follows a photodump from yesterday afternoon's visit to her house, which was spectacular --- the experience more than the house, though the house was pretty special in itself, and I wanted to stay forever.
Her house is actually two old houses, one from the 19th and one from the 17th century, joined by a built-on pass-through section, and surrounded by her garden. The 17th-century house was actually moved later onto the property, to make an addition to the original 19th-century house. This is Undset's original writing room (though the desk where she wrote Kristin Lavransdatter was destroyed by Nazis who occupied the house during World War II):
The kitchen phone where she received the call telling her she had won the Nobel Prize for Literature:
Her bedroom, which was huge and capacious, and contained her private oratory, as well as paintings of her children done by her husband (who had divorced his wife to marry her, and with whom she lived as brother and sister after her conversion to Catholicism):
Her writing space in the 17th-century house which she had moved and connected to the original house:
The house, not surprisingly, is filled with books. I was somehow especially moved by her editions of Froissart's Chronicles:
Other random interior shots:
We're on the mountainside, with lovely views from the living-room windows:
Moving on today to take the scenic train to Flåm, then hopefully visit a Viking center before landing again in Bergen in the evening.
Wearing for all this:
Sweet Camellia yet again, a little wrinkled from the pack, but fresh after a quick wash and dry in Trondheim. Again, the dress I almost didn't bring . . . doesn't it figure? This brings her up to five wears total so far in June (tied with Brooklyn), and makes her the most-worn dress on this trip.
The weather continues warm and sunny --- lucky us! It was about 75F yesterday afternoon in Lillehammer, and should be 70 at Flåm. Looks like more of the same in Bergen, through tomorrow, our final day.
MANY HOURS LATER:
Back in Bergen!
Back in the happy little loft! I have many photos to dump for today, but it'll have to wait until we've been out on the town.
