FRIDAY, FEAST OF THE SACRED HEART/WOOLLY NATURAL 23 DAY 166/BERGEN

Here basically is a photodump of a very long day, encompassing Wednesday and Thursday across time zones:

Sunrise over Amsterdam.

A first glimpse of Norway.

The city unsure of its own name.

Norsketraffik

Some Nordic bleeding hearts.

Our Air BnB.

Our street in Bergen

Cruise ship in the harbor.

View from our loft window.

About 8:30 last night.

It was 80F here yesterday. I lost the leggings fast, but Camellia was a traveling champ.

A NEW DAY:

Wearing today ( about 55F now, but another warm one coming):

Brooklyn today, with a pullover that will soon come off. Birk Balis not worn in the house. More to come!

More photos from the house (we occupy the attic, basically) and neighborhood:

LATER:

Been doing this mostly on my phone, so formatting is a little odd, but here's an afternoon photodump from our ramblings around the city.

First, just some Bergen street scenes:

Scenes from the Bergen Dom, the Lutheran (formerly not Lutheran, of course) Cathedral:

More street and harbor and fjord scenes:

Scenes from the Mary Church, which had been built and maintained by Germans --- Bergen was a big Hanseatic League port, and the Germans ran the show. At the Reformation, even though they themselves were reformed, when it was suggested that the altarpiece and other art in the church be dispensed with, they put their big mercantile foot down, so it's still there. The church is now Lutheran, but like a lot of Anglican churches in England, they've been gradually restoring things, including uncovering medieval frescoes. It's hard to tell which one, exactly, is the Last Judgment, which one is Pentecost, etc, but the images are there.

There are more photos from this church, but they're slow to upload. I might have to dump them in tomorrow.

But here's a rare shot of me and the Angelic Doctor at the Bergen Sentrum (a lake surrounded by art museums, which we did not go into because it was just too nice a day to be inside):

I did ditch the pullover, as you see, and was not overly concerned with modesty, either. He's wearing one of his merino shirts as well, so we are REPRESENTING.

DAY'S END:

It's after 9:30, and the sun is shining, and down the hill from us, the Bergen Festival is rocking. But we've walked almost ten miles today and eaten and drunk, so it's time to relax, if not exactly sleep yet.

A final photodump:

First,from the Mary Church:

Then post-kebab drinks by the harbor:

Our woollies saw us through the day. My husband is wearing a wool-cotton-blend button shirt (another Poshmark find last year), as well as his merino tee. Brooklyn served me beautifully all day, too, though I was wishing had brought my pullover out in the evening, when the cool breeze kicked up.

Brooklyn again in a pocket park we passed coming home.
