It's May! It's the glorious month of roses and sunshine and May crownings and Mary.
Of course, it's begun with a little chilly snap. When I went out with Dora after dark last night for a final walk, I was startled to find that the temperature had dropped. It wasn't raining --- though we had had a lot of rain early in the day --- but the wind had sprung up, blowing clouds across the moon.
This morning temperatures are in the low 40sF, though we're supposed to reach the mid-60s by afternoon. I had thought maybe leggings weather was over, but apparently not.
To many people's eyes, this teal reads as green, but to me it reads as blue. I suppose I should hold it next to some samples of green and blue to identify its undertones more accurately, but it does look blue to me. At any rate, Fiona is one of the two dresses that didn't make it to 6 wears in April, so what with one thing and another, I thought it would be appropriate to wear her to kick off the new month. Her longer sleeves make her a good choice for the weather, anyway. Wearing her with these thrifted teal-striped bamboo leggings, thrifted alpaca cardigan, thrifted Birks. I don't want to have to put on a jacket to walk the dog in a while, but I imagine I'll have to.
Much work this week, so posting will be brief.
LATER:
Got paid for something, and bought a dress. I had been waiting to see what the new Isabelle was going to look like, and I dunno . . . it's cute, but there just seems like a lot of potential for it not to work very well. And I already don't love how low my Audrey neckline is, so I think I'm going to pass on this one.
So . . . I have bought (wait for it) another blue dress. Do I need another blue dress? Well, the only other color that I would seriously have considered in this dress is sold out in my size, and it is May. And if there's any color I know I like wearing and will wear a lot of, all year round, with everything else I own, it's blue.
I won't say which dress it is yet. And I hope it works, because I hate having to send things back, enough to be really risk-averse when I order. I looked at Isabelle, which I had signed up to be notified for, and thought . . . ehhhhh, too risky. But I'm anticipating that this dress I did order will be my summer dress to wear to church, to weddings, to this literary thing in July, out to dinner, for walks with the dog . . . in short, for everything I do.
It's a seventh dress, which is probably stretching the boundaries of what I really need. But I figure that as the weather heats up, I will wear my Fiona and Willow, with their 3/4 sleeves, somewhat less than I do currently. And I'm still waiting for my Francis skirt, of course, feeling a little trepidatious about how that's going to fit and work, but also looking forward to a) more long options in my closet, because I am really most comfortable with midi- and maxi-length skirts and dresses, and b) as I've said before, an option for wearing my tops more regularly, year round. As much as I love my swing and above-the-knee dresses, and will certainly continue to wear them as regularly as before, it's nice to anticipate a couple more options that aren't all bare leg.
Actually, it occurs to me that that, more than color, is the kind of variety I've been craving in my closet. The skirts I currently own do give me a little of that, but it'll be nice to have those alternatives.
So, what with a lot of work this afternoon, and a lot to do all week, I have given myself a little present to sweeten the load.
