A hound at her absolute best.
I have to admit that despite all the barking she's a great dog, though still very much a puppy in many ways. Notably, she still chews shoes. Ask me how I know. I just broke my no-buy to replace my red Mary Janes . . . not something I really wanted to do, but I did give myself a "replace anything that gets ruined" clause. Oh. Well. I might not have bothered, but I REALLY like those shoes, and I was afraid that if I didn't order a new pair right away, they'd sell out.
She had managed to open the pocket doors to the room where I have been sleeping, pick this shoe out of a bag, and creep away to eat it, all undetected by me until too late. This is the minimal-damage end. She also chewed the heel, right through, which I didn't see until I went to put the shoe on, thinking, at least I can wear these to bum around in. Nope. Big hole, right through. And no way to mend any of it. So that's kind of a bummer, but there you are. It's why I did allow myself a replacement clause --- for shoes that were a "considered-purchase" exception to my no-buy rule to begin with.
But I still like Ruby, all the more because she didn't bark last night, with her people back home where they belong. And I learned my lesson. All my bags have resided on the bookshelf top for the duration of my visit.
Getting dressed, trying to track down my minimal items to repack. I did laundry yesterday, since my daughter had some wool wash, so I gave my Camellia another wash, to try to settle the dye a little more. She doesn't seem to have bled at all --- I washed and dried Maggie, too, to draw her up a tiny bit, and two pairs of black bike shorts, so nothing that would have shown any unwanted dye. I hope that by now the color is starting to stabilize.
I had also thrown in my blue bamboo dress, which I've been using as a nightgown, and I can report: wool dries a lot faster than bamboo. I slept in my Sierra last night, since I'd been wearing her anyway. She'll get a wash when I get home, since everybody else has gotten one already. She was very comfy to sleep in, and although it was a late night, after going to pick up my daughter and son-in-law on a late flight at DFW, which is truly the airport from the bowels of the underworld, I slept well. Missed the terminal where they had come in, had to pay my way out, then circle around, then figure out which of a myriad of ramps to take to get to the right part of the terminal . . . eventually we found each other, but it was a later night than it really needed to be. BUT once I lay down, I was out, and I did not stir until my alarm woke me to say goodbye to the daughter before she left for work.
Wearing Camellia for the drive home today, with tan sandals:
I don't know whether she's actually lighter and brighter than she was before the wash, but she might be, a little.
Packing to go, planning to swing by campus and hug the sophomores, then hitting the road for Memphis.
