Morning sun after a night of storms. We spent our date night last night first in the wood-fired pizza place, getting pizza to take to the brew pub, then in the brew pub, listening to everyone's phone sound tornado-warning alarms as trivia night got going. Seated safely in close proximity to a large plate-glass window, we watched the sky turn dark green, then the rain fall. No tornado, however, I'm happy to report, and here we are. The power was out for a little while this morning, but we remain otherwise unscathed.
Now the sun has come out, and the weather has turned hot and swampy, not a hint of freshness in the breeze. That's how we can tell we've passed from spring storms into summer ones. I walked about three miles with Dora this morning, and now she's passed out on the floor beside me, and I'm pretty sweaty, but ready to get down to some work.
Wearing so far today:
Very Team Basic Camellia, with not even earrings. I also didn't comb my hair, just pulled it back in a scrunchy. I will add some jewelry and comb my hair at some point, but this seems like a pretty good uniform for the day. I'd worn Camellia yesterday as an underdress, but today she's on her own as a cool easy option. I think she plays well with my favorite Xero Colorados.
I have just about settled on a marine-blue Maggie for a summer/conferencegoing dress --- my big break in the no-buy streak, but as I've said before, I'm not going to negate the year simply because I make a considered purchase or two. I am trying to decide on a size. I think I want a long, not a regular-length dress, because I'd like it to hit at my knees, either right above (as my small long Sierra does), or right below, in more of a midi length.
What I'm wearing here is a regular medium Camellia. It's a great length, mostly. I do wear it to church, though this is about as short as I'd be comfortable wearing to church. I have wondered off and on whether I could get away with a small, though in general I don't wear small sizes. I certainly couldn't have sized up in this dress. The medium has generous swing without totally swallowing me. But I am smaller through the shoulders and bust than anywhere else, and I would want a short-sleeved scoop-neck dress to be pretty fitted through the upper bodice area. I've been very happy with my small long Sierra. BUT with the thinner, silkier fabric of dresses like Camellia and Maggie, I worry about cling, panty lines, etc. BUT then I think the darker color would really help in that regard.
I will probably go for a medium long. That seems the safest option. But I am still pondering.
Meanwhile, I have actual stuff to do.
PS: These Colorado sandals have just pulled into the lead for "Most Worn Shoe of 2022." They have finally edged out both pairs of Birkenstocks and my Doc Martens, which won't see action again until the weather cools down in the fall.
