PENTECOST

Pentecost, and the blue sage is coming into bloom. It's a cool morning, but still, the threshold of summer. I got up early to wash my hair, which is now air-drying for a while. Planning to wear some red. A little poem for the day, which first appeared in The Windhover , issue 28.1, and is included in my forthcoming book, Among the Living : I still don't know, incidentally, when this book will be out. The general idea is late this year, but the last time I queried, the answer was vague. At any rate, the book begins with a 36-sonnet cycle of these hermit poems, which maybe was a risky move, in part because sonnet cycles are so common, and sonnets can tend to get repetitive (so yeah, let's start a book with 36 of them and see who's still reading by the time the 40th poem rolls around . . .). CORPUS CHRISTI SUNDAY

Another rainy day --- though we're due for one, after some days of sunshine. I'm off shortly to St. Michael's to sing with the festival choir for the 9 a.m. Mass. Then home again quickly to have brunch with the Artgirl before she departs for her internship. Wearing today: *Wool& Maggie dress (M/Long) in Marine Blue, bought May 2022 *Trades of Hope silk-cotton kimono, bought May 2024 (with credits won in a name drawing at a party) *Secondhand Birkenstock Papillio wedges, bought September 2023 My one worry is that it's going to be cold in that church. They usually have the air conditioning blasting, and it's not hot outside. We'll see how warm this kimono really is . . . Time to brush my teeth and get going, though. Later I'll knock out another outfit-planning list for the week. I've done this two weeks in a row now, and it's very helpful. I did have this dress on my list for today, even though I decided at the last minute to wear the kimono in

MONDAY, ADVENT 2

Advent votive holders in the morning light, on a runner the Texasgirl brought back from her travels in college (on top of a tablecloth which is really a shower curtain I found at the thrift store, which is how we roll, tableclothwise). The sun has come out today, and it's a good bit colder than it was over the weekend. I loved yesterday's rain, though it curtailed my dog-walking a bit --- I like walking in the rain, but last night it was coming down pretty steadily, and temperatures were dropping, so Dora and I just took a quick turn around the block before bed, instead of our usual whole-neighborhood amble in the dark. The kids remind me that yesterday was the 15-year anniversary of our bringing home our old dog, Lance . He was beautiful and good and kindhearted, and we still miss him. Not much on today, just continuing my Christmas shopping and editing endeavors, plus I guess writing something for the Sun. I do also want to walk my linen dress over to the alterations place
