MONDAY, ADVENT 4 (AKA "CHRISTMAS ADAM")

My study transformed into a double guestroom. THIS is what I've been after, all these years. I hope the bed is comfortable --- at least the mattresses are new (and are not the cheapie Ikea mattresses, but another brand of cheap mattress that good pretty good reviews).

Taking a break from cooking. I pulled the blue rocking chair pictured above into our bedroom and am sitting in it in the quiet. The husband is out running errands. The Texasgirl and A. have gone to fetch another sister (J.)  from the airport. The other sister (also A., so we'll call her A2) comes in later tonight.

I have made the filling for a large shepherd's pie: 3 pounds of browned ground lamb, onion and garlic, carrots and peas, chicken broth, tomato paste, thyme, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce, all stirred together in my big baking dish. Just waiting for the potatoes to finish boiling so that I can mash them, then I'll spread that over the top and leave it in the fridge until time to pop it in to heat for dinner. I've also polished all the everyday silverware (it's old silverplate that I have found over the years in junk shops and antique malls), so the table will look shinier tonight and tomorrow, before I break out the actual silver (also needing polishing) for Christmas Day.

Wearing:

*Secondhand Not Perfect Linen Mama dress (S) in Caffe Mocha, bought September 2024, last worn December 18. Total wears this year to date: 10

*Secondhand Icebreaker merino base-layer tee, owned roughly two years, worn pretty constantly in the cold weather.

*Snag merino tights in Crocodile (not seen), in their second full season of wear.

*Secondhand Keens Baby Bern boots, bought December 2024, last worn December 21, second wear.

OK, I'm breaking my rule about tall boots and below-the-knee skirts. I saw somebody wearing a pinafore this length with tall boots and liked the look after all, so here we are. Also, it's an extra layer of warmth for my legs. Temps were still below freezing when I went out with the dog this morning, so I was glad of the tall boots. And I continue to like them generally --- the leather is molding to my feet and they're quite comfortable to walk and stand in. Really a good buy, and I'm glad I pulled the trigger and got them.

Getting my purple wears in while the season is with us. Not that I'll stop wearing these dresses, but you know . . . makes sense to wear them a lot right now.

I need to go check my potatoes. Posting will be light for obvious reasons over the next few days, but I will take outfit photos. In case I don't look in here for a while, a very happy Christmas to all (three of) my readers!
