THANKSGIVING DAY

The turkey's roasting, the cornbread dressing is in the oven, the sweet potatoes are on the boil, and this tree in Beth and Eddie's backyard has burst into glory, here at the tail end of the season. Somebody --- Miriah and Jacob, I'm guessing --- is smoking something across the way. Cooking, cooking everywhere. It's what this day is for.

I'm about to take the dog out in the damp, warm weather. Here's what I've put on for the day:

*Secondhand Not Perfect Linen Leila dress (M/L) in Chocolate Brown, bought December 2023, last worn --- goodness, as long ago as October 28? A whole month? Anyway, total wears this year to date: 18, I believe.

*Secondhand cashmere shrug with crystals --- can't remember the brand. Bought September 2024, last worn October 7. I admit that this is not a piece I wear very often, but it is fun, and it glams up a very basic, neutral-ish outfit, just a little, for a holiday.

*Snag super-opaque microfiber tights in Hot Chocolate, bought this past summer.

*Secondhand Earth Shoe Mary Janes, bought August 2024, last worn some time ago (too lazy to look right now).

I wanted to wear a few things I haven't been wearing so much: this cardigan, these shoes. And I wanted to look fallish. I do love the swirly skirt of this dress, and as always, I marvel at how much I like the color, when I thought I wasn't going to. I almost resold this dress right after I bought it last year --- thank goodness I didn't!

Well, I had better check the cooking and take the dog out. A happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends!

Another view of the pristine table, before we all sit down to it:

LATER:

Food is et. Dessert is consumed. Husband is doing dishes, with interlude to crawl under house to unblock pipe from sink. Big bang of some sort has happened outside, so dog is mental with terror. Just, you know, the usual.

I also realized while I was cooking that I must have left my purse at the wine bar where we had dinner last night. I was sitting in a kind of banquette seat and must just have forgotten to pick it up as I was leaving. SO . . . no driving anywhere until the wine bar opens, as I hope it will tomorrow (would be just my luck if they were closed all weekend . . .).

So that's fun. But it's been a nice day anyway.
