Today's view: clouds, and the autumn-touched trees. High today of 81F, but with rain in the forecast. The husband's plan is to wash the front porch, which we didn't have the pressure-washers do yesterday --- fortunately it doesn't matter if it's raining outside, though I'll have to do something with the sofa cushions besides leave them on the front lawn.
I've got indoor housekeeping to do: vacuum up the dog hair, clean more baseboards, wipe down more woodwork. And of course there's dog-walking and all the normal routine. Tonight we're going to dinner with friends whom we haven't seen for a while, and that'll be fun.
Wearing today (Part 1):
*Secondhand vintage denim pinafore, bought last year to wear as a coverall for housecleaning and gardening. I often forget I have it (which is how I got a little bleach smudge on my Wisteria Willow, WHICH IS WHY I am resolving to wear this coverall more often when I know I'm going to be cleaning).
*Secondhand Patagonia men's base-layer tee, neckline cut out by me. Bought fall 2021, I believe. Last worn sometime in the winter.
*Birk Mayaris should need no describing by now.
I don't know that I'll be handling any bleach today, but I might be. And I figure: I'm planning to clean. I'll be helping to haul metal furniture off the front porch. Why get a nice dress grubby? Why risk tearing a dress I like? I do have aprons, but I forget to wear those, too. Meanwhile, this pinafore is basically indestructible. And even if I did destroy it, it cost me something like $7, so not the end of the world. Again, that's why I bought it to begin with.
If I lost a few more inches around my gut and hips, I might actually wear this pinafore as clothing. People say homeschool mom like that's a bad thing . . . and it's a surprisingly cute silhouette from the rear. In any event, I'm wearing it today, until such time as I shall bathe, wash my hair, and dress to go out.
Stay tuned!
MIDNIGHT UPDATE:
Lovely dinner with friends at their Charlotte townhouse. Home now, dog walked, off to bed soon, in a house with clean workwork and a shining front porch.
What I wore tonight:
A reliable transitional-weather outfit:
*Secondhand Not Perfect Linen Leila dress (M/L) in Chocolate Brown, bought December 2023, last worn September 3
*Very old Jones New York rayon cardigan, bought 2006, I think, last worn sometime fairly recently
*Secondhand Earth Shoes Mary Janes, bought in August, also worn pretty recently
Too tired to tally up wears-this-year, but I wear all these items with some frequency and feel good in the whole combination.
Going to bed. Mass in the morning.
