SATURDAY, ORDINARY TIME 20/DRIVING HOME

Quick morning kitchen-table still-life, at my mother's house in Memphis. I'm drinking coffee, waiting for her to get up, so that eventually I can take my leave to drive home.

Good to see all my cousins yesterday, though for a melancholy reason. A bunch of us went out for a late lunch and wine afterward, and it was a good time, as funerals so oddly often are. Sometimes they're not --- sometimes you feel death as nothing but an injustice and an outrage, as indeed it is --- but sometimes you can just acknowledge that it comes to us all, that it has not come early to the person of whom you have just taken your leave, and then you can go out with the living to rejoice in living a while longer, though of course one day all these revels will come to an end.

Had more wine with my mother-in-law last night, and about four hours of conversation before I finally had to peel myself off the couch and come back here to bed. A good night's sleep, and now I'm ready to be on my way.

Wearing today:

*Wool& Brooklyn dress (S/Long) in Pacific, bought May 2023, last worn August 5. I'll count up total wears this year some other time, but this dress is one of my frequent flyers.

*Secondhand Birk Mayaris, bought after Easter this year, also frequent flyers.

I put on my Beetroot Brooklyn last night to go see my mother-in-law, but didn't take pictures. I mean: it's this dress, but magenta.

Color check:

My kind-of-shiny (this house is hot) just-got-up face. The black yesterday was not bad, but I feel so much more myself in colors like this.

Time to eat breakfast!
