TUESDAY, ORDINARY TIME 11/NORWAY

Current view in Bergen. We've been up since 5 a.m. yesterday in North Carolina, but all things considered, we're doing just fine. We landed in Bergen around 10 this morning (Bergen time) but couldn't check into our Airbnb until 4, so we've been walking, gotten coffee, and seen a little complex of museums near the harbor: the 13th-century king's hall (restored after an explosion in 1944 more or less destroyed it) and the castle keep.

High table in the medieval hall, still used for state occasions, plus concerts and other cultural events.

The textiles in the hall are remarkable --- not a lot of them, but the ones that are there (all contemporary) are really lovely. Here are some details from a wall hanging:

And here's a view of a massive ship in the harbor through the mullioned window of the Rosencrantz Tower (which originate with the same King Hakon who built the hall, but was much modified in the 16th century under Danish rule.

All of that ate up some hours, and now we're having a little rest before venturing out to our favorite pub here for some fiskesuppe and beer.

I'm still basically wearing what I put on yesterday morning. It's been raining here off and on, and a maxi skirt seemed like not a great idea, so I took it off and put on leggings instead. At the height of the rain we hadn't checked into our house yet, so I effected this change in the parking garage where we've stowed the car. I also wore my Xero hikers to walk around town, but took them off when I came inside.

I'm kind of glazed over, but still (metaphorically) standing. First thing I did when I got into the car was put my hair up.

It's a lot cooler right now than it was this time last year, so I am glad I tossed in more layers at the last minute. I might truly wear the heck out of this alpaca cardigan.

Anyway, hanging out, drinking water, glad to be here,
