Up early on a chilly gray morning, leaving for Charlotte, the cathedral, and the annual diocesan Chrism Mass in just a little while.
Wearing:
We're in the choir loft at the back of the church, so no requirement to wear concert dress today.
*Wool& Audrey dress (S) in Black Heather, bought November 2022
*Secondhand J.Jill linen-ramie cardigan, bought early 2023, I think
*Secondhand Birkenstock Papillio wedge-heel clogs, bought September 2023
This isn't really my normal color combination, but it works for choir. My legs are covered enough for a chilly morning, on a day when it's going to warm up enough that I probably won't want tights later --- and the choir loft is generally pretty warm. I like this champagne-colored long cardigan as a contrast to the soft dark charcoal of my dress: not stark black, which I really don't wear except for concert-dress occasions and some funerals, but a smudgier, softer version of the same. I'm wearing a Kosher Casuals crop top under, to raise the neckline for church, but I love that you can't tell from a distance (really you wouldn't know unless you looked very closely at my chest, which I really hope people do not do as a rule). And it is a festal Mass with white vestments, so although I don't really wear bright gold, either, this soft shimmery beige works as a suggestion of gold. Shoes contrast with my lowest hem and are comfortable.
This dress has been such a workhorse in my wardrobe for the last year and change --- comfortable as a nightgown, easy to dress down but also up. It's another style I'd happily buy more of in more colors, though I would prefer this tencel-merino-blend fabric to the lighter merino version they also sell in some colors.
And now I'd better finish gathering myself together and get out the door.
