Moon, Venus, and streetlight, late last night.
It's cooler today, but bright and lovely, with a high of 70F. Looking forward to Mass and then maybe some more gardening.
Meanwhile, some front-border shots (carefully excluding the mint chaos that's actually present):
They continue to taunt me, these peonies.
Wearing today:
Miss Maggie pulls into first place, to tie with Camellia for five wears so far in April. This is funny, because last month Maggie was my least-worn dress, with only two wears. Just goes to show you: it pays to track your own habits and patterns before you decide that you do or "just don't reach for something," especially when the something in question is a relatively expensive dress.
Today, again, Maggie has disguised herself as a top, a role she plays well. The skirt is linen and thrifted so long ago that at least two businesses have occupied the Main Street storefront since the thrift shop where I bought the skirt folded. Thrifted alpaca cardigan, thrifted Birk Balis, because after several days of barefoot sandals, my feet are craving a little break. Also, the darker sandal makes a nice contrast with my hemline.
The only thing I don't like about outfits like this is that the skirt on top generally doesn't have pockets, and my hands don't know what to do with themselves.
But I do love the skirt, which is why I've kept it all these years, and I love that I can turn a relatively shapeless swing dress into a fit-and-flare kind of thing simply by adding an A-line skirt. The greens in this particular skirt are not ones I would ever wear close to my face, but they are so fresh and springlike that I'm glad to wear them somewhere on my person. This is one reason why I'm not too strict about "seasonal" coloring --- it's easy to feel that you can wear only that palette and nothing else, when in fact there are colors outside your best colors that look good with your best colors, and there's no real reason not to wear them (except that you might not want them next to your face).
I like that my warm cardigan, which I do still need on this chillier morning, harmonizes with but doesn't exactly match any color in the rest of my outfit. It echoes the little touches of turquoise in my skirt, but stands apart from that color, too. I was worried about its being a little boxy with the flared skirt, but I think it's okay.
Enough overthinking . . . time to finish my coffee, brush my teeth, and walk the dog before we leave for Mass!
ETA: Note to self: Fiona would also be great with this skirt. Must remember that.
