FRIDAY, PASSIONTIDE/WOOLLY 23 DAY 90/MOUNTAINS

Got here late yesterday afternoon, a little while before Marly returned from a day with her mother in Bryson City. So I spent about half an hour wandering around taking pictures. Today is chilly and cloudy and a little rainy, and I'm glad I took that time yesterday to enjoy the late sun on the mountainside.

Saw trilliums:

And bluebells:

Creeping phlox up the stone steps:

Trees still bare but starting to bud:

When Marly came home, we had dinner on the patio, though the wind had kicked up and was so stiff we eventually went inside. After dinner, we drove through Western Carolina University, down to the river greenway walk, where we walked two miles. Not bad, for me, for a day when I wasn't really counting steps. We sat up really late talking --- later than I've stayed up since I don't know when.

Today: she's in Bryson City, and I've just done a quick read-through and revision of my essay on Seren of the Wildwood. Funny to be writing an essay on a book while staying up all night talking to the author. At any rate, I've gotten past the "this is terrible/nothingis working" stage, and I think it's about done. Now trying to untangle some administrative headaches relating to this conference where I'm presenting in two weeks, and drinking double bergamot Earl Gray tea mixed with blackcurrant black tea, which is a delicious combination. No coffee here, but there's always really good tea.

Wearing today:

For once, an interesting selfie spot! The light's a little dull, because it's an overcast day, and I was fairly freezing while I was out there.

Wearing, from my travel capsule (and boy, am I glad I packed multiple pairs of leggings): Willow, with old cotton-blend leggings, the thrifted-on-Marly's-insistence alpaca cardigan, and thrifted Birkenstock Rosemeads. I might have to put on socks, but I haven't yet.

So here's the dress-wearing tally for March, on this last day of same:

The March winners, tied for first place with 7 wears each, are Camellia, Sierra, and Willow

In second place: Audrey, with 5 wears.

Third place: Fiona, with 4 wears.

Fourth place: Maggie, with only 2 wears.

That's the month that was. It'll be interesting to see how patterns play out in April, with more warm days (I hope), and no self-imposed wear-purple mandate. In that regard, though not only in that regard, Willow has served me very well this Lent. But the soft spring color has also been such a lift.
