I haven't actually listened to the king's speech to the Welsh assembly, which friends of mine have been talking about, but thought I'd go ahead and embrace my heritage anyway. I'm pretty pan-Celtic, at least as much Scots as Welsh, with a whole multi-generational lineage of Davidsons and McLeans, who came to America and promptly set about marrying each other for the next two hundred years. BUT in addition to the surname I married into, I'm descended from Matthewses on one side and Owenses on the other, so CYMRU FOREVER, say I.
Besides, the Welsh are poets and singers. I claim them.
We were going to go hiking, but decided that today is not the day --- later we will mosey over to Oktoberfest at the neighborhood pub, to drink the seasonal beer and sample the Bavarian food truck, but for now we're just lounging around.
My dehydration campaign continues apace. I've preserved whole Mason jars of hot peppers and eggplant, and now I'm casting an eye at the remaining tomatoes and thinking, what if? I think I'm terminally afraid of canning, but drying things is something I can get behind. Next year's garden is going to take this business into account, let me tell you. Where I had originally planted things thinking to eat them while they were in season, now I'm thinking how I can eat them all year, with the caveat that I'll have to reconstitute them first.
Trying out a date-night outfit for Oktoberfest:
Wearing forward last night's red shoes, with my gray Wool& Sierra dress (tan leather belt) and jean jacket. I think I prefer this belted to unbelted:
It works better, I think, from the Rule of Thirds standpoint. I might be kind of warm in this getup, but it's supposed to cool off tonight, so maybe I'll be glad I have the jacket.
LATER:
Well, nevermind, hold the phone. Change of plans. It's hot. Not doing layers. Instead:
Still wearing forward the red shoes, keeping the belt --- but Maggie is a lot cooler than Sierra + a jacket.
UPDATE:
At the last minute, I decided to lose the belt. Not sure it was the best idea aesthetically, but I was comfortable.
