My parents, forty-odd years ago, went through a phase of collecting these wooden animal puzzles, which are now in my my house. I like this group of giraffes --- what is the multiple word for giraffes? A quick search turns up, oddly, multiple answers. They can be a herd, but that's a bit generic. I prefer tower. But you can also call them a journey of giraffes, a corps, a kindergarten (?), or a troop. At any rate, here are some giraffes: a puzzle of giraffes. I wonder whether puzzle is a collective noun for any animal species?
These giraffes stand on the bookshelf in our sunroom, seen here in quiet morning light.
Sunday again, and the Feast of St. Augustine, though of course Sunday trumps the feast day.
Wearing:
A very simple, basic ensemble: my Maggie wool dress with tan sandals. I might add a shawl or cardigan for Mass, but I went out to walk the dog like this, and although the air is pretty swampy, I'm still comfortable and not sweaty.
Leaving my dress unbelted today. She can be a bit shapeless, but the swing is nice and airy. Although I'm saving her, a little, for my conference next month, I am trying to wear this dress more as we head into at least the calendar version of fall, as opposed to the weather version. It's still hot, but I start to want not to feel like the last rose of summer. This dress with its short sleeves offers a more transitional look than my sleeveless dresses do, but is cooler by itself than a sleeveless dress with a cardigan. If I wanted another layer, for a more finished look, I could add a scarf like this linen one I wore as a shawl a few weeks back.
Or I could go with this one, which I bought in the thrift shop last summer, thinking it would go with my Camellia dress (in her original gray-blue color) for a wedding. It really, weirdly, strikingly, did NOT go with Camellia in her original color, and I ended up wearing my blue floral kimono with her instead. I think it will look good with Camellia in her new color, but meanwhile, it also plays nicely with the plain marine-blue backdrop of my Maggie dress:
It's a synthetic, sadly, so not nice and airy, but it does elevate the basic dress for a Sunday-Mass look. I'm feeling a little pale and tired this morning, but I'll do.
