Welcome to my house, where the door is always open, unless you're Dora and have jumped out a window and then let yourself onto the front porch, where you then proceed to try to scratch your way back into the house, until the dogsitter shows up and stops you.
One more thing to do something about, eventually. But not today.
Speaking of Dora, we are back from a very nice 3.5-mile walk on a breezier, cooler morning. We were going to try to go to the dog park, but somebody was there, so we walked the whole greenway, end to end, instead. Now we're back, she's passed out on the floor at my feet, and I'm settling down to some work.
Wearing today:
Camellia, cool and breezy for walking and living, with my EVA Birks for a darker monochrome effect, and my straw hat, because I'm trying to get into the habit of wearing hats.
As you can see, I still haven't done anything about dyeing this dress. I'm still mulling what I want to do. But I am going to have to mend her, and I already know how hard it is to find thread that remotely matches this color. I could go for visible mending, but honestly, I feel pretty meh about that, especially given where my mended/mend-needing spots are: one just above the back hem, which I've sewn with non-matching but neutral thread and just hoped it wasn't glaringly obvious, and now a new hole behind the right pocket.
I got the first hole last summer, catching the hem on the chain-length fence while I was gardening. I was wearing an apron, but wouldn't you know I'd catch the one part of the dress the apron didn't cover. I don't know where this new hole came from, but it's in kind of an awkward place, basically on my backside. My great preference would be to mend it in a way that blended in instead of standing out.
You can see how pilled the fabric over the pockets has become, too. I love this dress, and I don't think I've been careless with her, but she shows signs of definite wear. Makes me hesitate to invest in too many dresses at this price point to wear as everyday/go-everywhere dresses --- except the Sierra, which again, seem to be indestructible. Part of me is tempted to do the 30-day challenge, but I'm not ready to embark on anything like that with my new Maggie dress.
At this point the hole isn't obvious, so I'm just leaving it for now, but this is why I contemplate a dye job. Meanwhile, the dress has faded so much that the hemstitching is starting to look like a contrasting detail, so I'm not even really worried about that aspect of dyeing her a brighter, darker blue.
MUCH LATER:
Got distracted by something, don't even remember what now. Have pulled up an old fiction project to try working on, and am waiting for the MS of a friend's collection of essays on poetry to read and endorse. The weather continues kind of semi-overcast and soft --- I wish it would rain a little, because otherwise I'll have to go out and water the grapevine I transplanted yesterday. It survived the night, and is looking pretty perky, but I had better keep an eye on it.
Finally, happy name day to my son-in-law, one of whose numerous names (he has four legal middle names, basically) is Irenaeus.
