Last night's moon in a lambent sky.
Yesterday we went to the beach and swam and walked a lot, and some hair-trimming took place:
You know your sister loves you when she drives all the way from Texas to give you a curly haircut on the porch. Today the Viking Bro's hair is still lying in rings and half-rings on the floor under the picnic table, looking redder than I really thought his hair was (note that hers is pretty darn red, as well as curly):
Today: Mass on the island, breakfast, a lot of hanging around. It's hotter today, and nobody has ventured to the beach. Here on the porch, though, the breeze is nice, and I can see the Gulf from where I'm sitting. Still wearing what I wore to Mass, as I imagine I will until I either put on a bathing suit or go to bed at night.
Posing here in my Maggie dress with belt and fish chairs.
And again:
Tan fake Birks on my feet.
Finding some peace before I have to shift people's sleeping arrangements around to make room for my mother and brother, who will be here tonight. As always in a beach house, there are enough sleeping places on paper for the number of people we have, but they don't exactly correspond to the needs and preferences of the people we have. Mostly I don't know that many groups of seven people where that many people really want to sleep in the same bed as another member of the party. Whoever furnished this house seems to have assumed that most people travel in groups of three couples and one single person. I sort of knew this going in, but you know how it is when you get there and suddenly realize . . . oh well. But as I type this, they're making these arrangements on their own, so there you go. One more thing I was worrying about that I didn't actually have to worry about.
My three wool dresses are serving me well so far. I was pretty comfortable in Sierra yesterday, even in the heat and humidity, but today Maggie feels like a dream. I think I'll continue just to rotate through them: I wore Camellia to drive down Friday, then Sierra yesterday, Maggie today, so it'll be Camellia's turn again tomorrow, and so on. I'm going barefoot most of the time --- too much trouble to put on shoes! I did also bring my linen aprons with me to wear while cooking, which I think will prove to have been a good move. We had gumbo and rice from the seafood market last night, I'm making Cajun shrimp pasta for dinner tonight, and then I hope we'll go out tomorrow.
