Continuing my effort really to wear everything in my closet. This was my first combination of the day –– no, actually, the first combination was the gray bamboo tunic under the Pact cotton dress (both from Poshmark late in 2021), but I didn't like that so much, so I tried the tunic on top instead and liked that better. I'd bought this braided leather belt (another exemption from my no-buy rule) last week at a thrift store in Texas, and today seemed like a good day to take it for a ride.
I tried the camel boots first, but then switched back to my Doc Martens, which are just a lot more comfortable for all-day wear when I don't have to look super polished.
I'd already had on the marbled bamboo leggings, but obviously they show more clearly with the Docs. The camel boots offer a bit more contrast, but I like the muted tones of this whole outfit: gray Piko dolman-sleeve tunic, grape Pact cotton dress, bamboo-cotton-blend leggings with wool socks (not seen but there), gray-green Doc Martens. I like the drape of the tunic, belted for more definition. I like that nothing matches, but everything harmonizes. If it were colder, I could add a wool tee underneath for more insulation, but I don't think I'll need that layer today. With a puffer jacket, I should be plenty warm outside.
I also like that this dress can provide me with another solid straight skirt. All I have to do is wear a top over it. I'm learning that every time I think, If only I had X, my first move should not be to go looking for X outside my closet, because the odds are that it's actually already there. I just have to find out where it's hiding, what it's masquerading as. Then all I have to do is unmask it and wear it.
I also like the way that the very fluid tunic gives this straight, heavyweight dress some needed grace and flow. I'd almost outboxed the dress because I tend to feel kind of stumpy in it, but honestly, it has a lot of possibility, which I'm willing to explore because I love the color, and the fabric is so lovely and soft.
Everything about this outfit secondhand, except my boots and socks.
Still tracking my wardrobe choices daily.
Writing, still catching up on laundry, taking breaks to go outside with Dora for little training sessions. Need to call my mother as well.
Also, this cracked me up yesterday. We tend to collect videos that are inadvertently comic. Our family favorite is a local (to somewhere) tv news clip in which a reporter paddling a canoe is going on about terrible flooding conditions, and then two guys in hip boots walk past behind her, up to their knees, carrying beer. This one is pretty good in much the same vein.
