THE HUNDRED-DAYS' DRESS: DAY 74

Perspective is everything in photographs, and you don't always know what the perspective is, exactly, or the scale, so that you can orient yourself. For example, want to know what room we're standing in right now? We're standing –– or so it seems –– in the kitchen of the dollhouse my dad made for me the Christmas I was eight. It currently occupies the windowseat in our upstairs hall; my daughter started refurbishing it last Christmas but didn't get very far. I suppose the windowsill visible through the dollhouse window might tip you off, but otherwise, this might strike you simply as a photograph of a room, in which you could reasonably expect to stand, in your normal size.

More rooms . . .

You can't tell from this photograph how enormous my sons' room is. It really is. In the last house we lived in, the kitchen and living room combined were about the size of this room. Since 2015, when our older son went to college, the room has functioned as a studio apartment for our younger son –– all it's missing is a fridge and hotplate, really.

And my daughter's room, which is the one I'd really want to live in, because it gets the morning sun:

This room is also bigger than it looks. It has a chimney flue going up through it, but on the other side of that is a little dormer niche, where she has a good chair for reading. Those are all her guitar trophies, there on the dresser, for finger picking, being best lead player, best bass player, etc, in her studio.

Missing them both today, looking forward to Thanksgiving. The others I won't see till Christmas, or close to it, but that always comes fast on the heels of Thanksgiving, anyway.

Today's Camellia-based outfit: a knotted tee last worn on Day 3

This was another cheap Walmart buy, of the sort I am committed to not making anymore, but a nice heavyweight cotton tee. I like the pink and blue together, and the weight is right for a warm day like today.

In addition to all this floating about the empty house, it's been a busy work day. I've done a lot of novel revision, for one thing. Also, my dear editor at Able Muse Press has hired me to copy-edit a novel, so I began on that today. I'm about to go for a walk, but then I hope to peck away a little more at my children's-lit essay for this month before knocking off to finish making dinner. I have a little chuck roast for two in the crockpot, but I'll need to cook some vegetable sides, which I actually haven't even planned yet. We've eaten up most of the fresh produce by now, so I need to remind myself of what's in the freezer.

That's about it for today. These days, they do go by.
