THE HUNDRED-DAYS' DRESS: DAY 10

~~MONDAY~~

Kids are off to the beach with friends, so we have an empty house from now until Thursday. It's good practice, I guess.

The bad webcam photos continue, though I will be replacing my phone . . . sometime soon. Among other things, I miss taking better pictures. I've kind of gotten over my Pangrams withdrawal: kind of.

I am pictured here today in our little back study/den –– apparently, back in the day, according to people we've met who either lived in this house or had relatives who did, this room was the master bedroom. The last owners turned it into a den, however, with a massive gas fireplace, and that's how we've used it. In the winter, this is the room we live in. We close off the front rooms –– double front parlor and dining room –– which get very cold, and spend all our time in the kitchen and in this room, across the hall from the kitchen. At Christmas we crank the heat some and move out into the whole house, because with nine people present you kind of need the space, but otherwise, this is our burrow. The red couch makes it cheerful, though the far less stylish green leatherette couch (not really pictured, but it has a pet cover on it which is always rumpled) is actually comfortable. This room has also housed our homeschool library and been a favorite reading spot –– now, with this great sea-change in our life, one of my projects for upcoming days is to purge and reorganize the shelves, keeping books I really want to keep but passing many along to make room for the books currently stacked in the corner (and let's not even get started on my son's books piled all over the upstairs hall . . . that's its own upcoming project).

On the docket for today, meanwhile:

*writing –– I want to turn from my current novel to an older project that's been lying around in pieces, to see what I can do with its opening scenes.

*wash the dog, who is old and gross

*walk, if it's not absolutely too hot

Wearing Camellia as a jumper today, with a white cut-off/homemade half-tee underneath, for variety's sake. The necklines don't really work, but whatever. I'm dressed now. Hair in a braid with a band to keep my bangs out of my face. Blue EVA Birks.

Man, these are some bad pictures, but at least my days are documented. I do like the colors and shapes in this room, though. Even as a clutter-gathering spot, it's my favorite room in the house besides the kitchen (where I do most of my living and working year-round).

Husband says it's cool and nice out right now, so we are going to resume our 3-mile morning-walk habit.

POST-WALK:

Parked at the kitchen table, in Camellia with half-tee and apron, ready to start my work day.
